The Eastern Equatoria state Parliamentary Caucus in the National Legislature on Wednesday called for immediate independent investigation on the occurrences that claimed lives, led to destruction of properties and human displacement in the region for nearly two months now.
“The National and State governments should conduct an immediate and unhindered investigations for all these heinous crimes in Nimule, Kapoeta North, Ngangalla and Ikwoto and the culprits be arrested and arraigned in the court of Law”, Hon Victor Omuho Ohidei ,the Secretary General of Eastern Equatoria state Parliamentary Caucus in the National Legislature sounded while reading out the statement on behalf of Members.
In the a document signed by 22 members of Eastern Equatoria state Parliamentary Caucus , the Lawmakers called upon the National Government to immediately support the governments of Central and Eastern Equatoria states in addressing and curbing the sporadic violence and conflicts that is currently happening in those places.
“The High Level security committee sent by H.E the President should de-escalate the tension between the cattle herders and the host communities and implement fully the resolutions and the deadline given to the cattle herders to leave the areas as agreed”.The statement reads in part.
They urged the National and State governments and other humanitarian agencies to urgently assist the displaced persons at the scenes of the conflicts.
“All cattle herders and their families should be completely taken out of all parts of Eastern and Central Equatoria states”. They argue.
The Chairperson of Eastern Equatoria state Parliamentary Caucus in the National Legislature Hon. Julius Moiliga on his part said , they are very concerned about the incidences happening in EES and needs intervention from the government as soon as possible so that lives and properties of the citizens are saved.
He blamed the people on ground for not implementing the orders of the president and called for the replacement of all partial forces stationed in Magwi county and other parts of Eastern Equatoria state if at all peace and order are to be restored in the those areas.
Another MP.Grace Abalang said, they are so concerned because this is not the first incident to happen and that, they now need permanent solutions so that civilians can continue with their normal businesses.
Grace says they also want to meet the president and say their side of the story about the persistent violence.
