More than 20 women in Aweil South County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have received training in business, advocacy and psychosocial support.
This was revealed on Sunday in Juba by Anyuon Anyuon Piol, the project officer for Empower Youth Africa.
“No one will speak better than the women themselves on issues concerning them. Business skills help individuals understand both internal and external factors that influence an organization’s growth and profitability,” Piol told Juba Echo.
Piol said that Empower Youth Africa in South Sudan in collaboration with Sweden Seveige funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) conducted the training to empower women to build their capacity and advocate on issues affecting them.
Piol said that the training will boost the confidence of women, adding that business skills in leadership is the art of influencing and managing people with the aim to set and achieve common goals.
Mary Aker Deng, a 35 –year- old who attended the training, said she wants to be a good leader and contribute toward business skills in her community after acquiring useful skills in leadership and confidence in speaking.
“Though the floods have affected most parts of the State, the advocacy programs for business skills and the rights for women will often continue to benefit the society,” Deng said.
“I will work hard after this training, so that the people of Aweil South County involve women in business leadership and decision making and also promote the right of women and girls,’’ she said.
