More than 900,000 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 since April last year when the vaccination campaign commenced in South Sudan.
Brendan Dineen, the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Coordinator at the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed on Monday that a total of 902,923 have been fully vaccinated.
“Over the past fortnight, more than 250,000 persons have been fully vaccinated in more than 175 payams. Since the start of the COVID-19 vaccination program in April 2021 a total of 995,187 vaccine doses have been administered,” Dineen told The Juba Echo in an interview in Juba.
He disclosed that intensified vaccination activities have been conducted in 28 Counties during the past two weeks and will continue until 2nd June.
These vaccination activities have been carried out by WHO in Lakes, Warrap, Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile State.
Dineen noted that the Health Pooled Fund (HPF) is presently delivering scaled-up vaccination in seven Counties located in Northern Bahr al Ghazal, Unity, Western Bahr al Ghazal and Central Equatoria state.
The state ministries of health, County health departments, and health partner agencies are leading vaccination activities in their localities.
