Tonj South Commissioner suspended over alleged shooting

The Commissioner of Tonj South County has been suspended for allegedly shooting a resident identified as John Lemon.

This comes after Warrap State Governor Aleu Ayieny Aleu has lifted the immunity of Agor Malang Agor and leading to his suspension pending investigations.

“This is to notify you that your immunity and duties as commissioner of Tonj South Warrap State are lifted and suspended respectively,” part of an order seen by Juba Echo read.

The Governor reportedly ordered the police and the legal attorney in Tonj to take appropriate legal procedures against the commissioner and arraigned him to court for the alleged shooting of Lemon on the night of 27th May 2022.

“The victim which was medevac to Juba with grievous gunshot injuries have been operated upon and the bullet that penetrated to his chest (right) lacerating his liver and puncturing his right kidney is from a pistol of 9mm calibre,” the order continues.

“Since you were the only one with a weapon at the scene of a crime, then you are to face the law accordingly,” Aleu directed.

“You are advised to legally get for yourself a legal counsel to assist you in your defence against charges that shall be made against you by the prosecutors,” the governor urged the commissioner.

Warrap State has been an undertone of armed conflict before Aleu took over. But harsh penalties for the perpetration of armed violence deterred residents from committing heinous crimes.

However, the pre-Aleu era is seemingly coming back.
