Unity government urged to set up development enterprise

By Wek Atak Kajang

The transitional unity government has been urged to speed up the process of establishing both the youth and women development funds.

This was revealed in a petition on Tuesday filed by 50 national youth organizations in Juba.

Under the 2018 revitalized peace deal, these two funds are supposed to help support youth and women in business and development activities.

The revitalized peace agreement provides for the establishment of the youth enterprise fund commission to help administer the fund.

Peter Malir Biar, Chairperson for the South Sudan Youth Organizations Coalition stressed the need for the government to provide financial resources to enable the youth to start up small scale businesses.

He stressed the need for the government to finalize the implementation of the security arrangements, as well as address the widespread ethnic violence across the country.

At least 83,000 unified forces drawn from former rebel fighters and the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) are yet to be graduated to take charge of security during the ongoing transitional period that ends in February 2023.
