Sudan’s Sovereign Council led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and various opposition parties are set to review next week the 2020 Juba peace agreement signed to end decades of conflict.
Tut Gatluak Manime, Presidential Adviser on Security Affairs and Chairman of the South Sudan Mediation Council (SSMC) said the implementation of key aspects of the peace agreement had stalled, hence the need for all the parties to review it’s implementation in Juba.
“Today is the arrangement for the implementation of Juba peace agreement with partners in Sudan, the Sudan government had conflict and there was lack of implementation of Juba peace agreement with partners,” Gatluak told journalists in Juba on Friday.
He disclosed that delegations from neighboring Chad; the United Arab Emirates are expected to witness the review of the peace deal.
“We are monitoring the Juba peace agreement to see what has been implemented, and what has not been implemented, all that was signed will be implemented by the partners and government of Sudan,” Gatluak said.
The Sudanese government signed the agreement with opposition groups under the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) that include SPLM-N sector led by Malik Agar, Justice Equality Movement under Jibril Ibrahim, Democratic Union party led by Eltom Hajou and the Sudan Liberation Movement under Minni Minnawi.
The agreement involves power-sharing, wealth-sharing, transitional justice, security, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees.
The SPLM-N sector led by Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu and Sudan Liberation Movement under Abdul Wahi Al-Nur did not sign the peace deal.
