The transitional unity government and the United Nations have signed the Corporation Framework consolidating operations of the UN mission and UN agencies, funds and programs in South Sudan.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2023-2025 is designed to address the national priorities of today, as well as prepare the country for tomorrow.
It covers areas of governance, agriculture, youth and women empowerment and economic revitalization.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit officiated the signing ceremony of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023–2025 between the government and United Nations Development agencies in South Sudan on Wednesday in Juba.
In his remarks during the ceremony, President Kiir reaffirmed the government’s commitment to work with development partners, particularly UN agencies, to achieve sustainable peace and prosperity.
“We have all seen the situation in South Sudan; we need peace, and we need our people to enjoy sustainable development as we implement the peace agreement,” said Kiir.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, Sarah Beysolow Nyanti, reiterated the commitment of the UN system, across the peace, humanitarian, and development dimensions, to sustain and strengthen the partnership with the government and people of South Sudan to accelerate progress towards the country’s Vision 2040 as well as the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
Both the government and the United Nations endorsed the cooperation framework as the basis for partnership and collaboration over the next three years.
The document allows UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes (AFPs) operating in South Sudan to reaffirm their commitment to work together to consolidate peace, stabilise and sustain the economy, secure social development, and build the resilience of the South Sudanese population.
The three-year-strategic plans was signed on Wednesday by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs Martin Elia Lomoro on behalf of the government while Sara Beysolow Nyanti represented the UN agencies in South Sudan.
