South Sudan police calls for reporting domestic violence in wake of Warrap incident

The National Police Services has urged the public to report incidents related to domestic violence in the aftermath of the action of it’s own officer who gouged out the eyes of his daughter in Warrap State.

Maj.Gen Daniel Justin Buolo, the spokesman for the national police services, said such incidents should be reported to the established police special protection units.

“We urge the public that once there is an incident as such, it should immediately be reported to the police,” Buolo told journalists in Juba on Wednesday.

“The family, neighbors, civil society organization and all other sectors have to look into such violent incidents, marriage for under-age girls is a crime and must be reported immediately to the police,” he added.

Angelo Agany, a 45-year-old police officer in Tonj East County of Warrap State last week used cannula to pierce his eldest daughter Akuot Agany Kut’s eyes several times.

The incident happened at Abiook village in Paliang Payam in Tonj East County.

Angelo is said to have been disappointed in his 18-year-old daughter after she eloped with a man he did not approve.

Akout Agany Kut arrived in Juba to seek further medical attention after being treated at Wau Teaching Hospital.

Her father is already in police custody where he is awaiting to be arraigned before court.
