The Speaker of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) Jemma Nunu Kumba has called for the tabling of new salary pay structure for civil servants before the house.
“For our veterans, the parliament is quite aware of the difficult situation you are going through, we are working hard together with the executive that this salary structure should be improved. I know there is sometimes information going around that it is the parliament that has refused to pass the new salary structure,” Kumba said while addressing mourners during the public viewing of the body of the late Salva Mathok Gengdit in parliament on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Public Service and Human Resource Development last year introduced new salary structure for civil servants which was adopted by cabinet. Cabinet then directed the minister of finance and economic planning to make supplementary budget for it to be operational.
Kumba dismissed allegations that the new salary structure was being delayed to be passed by parliament.
“I wish the Minister of Public Service was here, he knows that the parliament has been waiting for the new salary structure to be brought to parliament so that we pass it,” she said.
“Sometimes I felt it was agitating the organized forces against the parliament by just passing this wrong information. The parliament is here for you, we know it is our army, our police that is protecting us as members of parliament as well as the executive,” Kumba added.
She said parliament has no reason to delay implementation of the re-adjusted salary structure.
