The United Nations Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan have again been attracted to South Sudan and have planned to make the 11th trip over the issue.
Visiting this week, the experts including Andrew Clapham, Professor of Public International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, and Barney Afako a Ugandan lawyer with experience in conflict mediation will meet with government officials, members of civil society, jurists, UN agencies, and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
According to a statement, a key area of the visit slated for today until Feb 18 is a discussion on the human rights situation in South Sudan, including the commission’s latest findings and recommendations on priority areas for the country following the signing of a two-year extension to the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.
The Commission will present its reporting on their findings to the UN Human Rights Council in early March.
