South Sudan hires three firms to audit oil fields

South Sudan said Friday it has hired three firms to undertake the much-awaited environment-social impact assessment and audit in it’s northern oil fields. 

Puot Kang Chol, South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum told journalists in Juba, the capital of South Sudan. 

“The first three companies were all excellent in terms of technical proposal, the next step will be for the contractors to commence the audit which is expected to be completed within 90 days from the commencement of work,” he said. 

Chol disclosed  that Hawi SA Norway bridge consult and environ care will audit oil fields operated by Dar Petroleum Operating Company (DPOC, ERVIC Associate Kenya Co.Ltd which will deal with GPOC and Paloi and SGS Co.Ltd which will covered SPOC.

The committee which selected the companies included, representatives from the ministry of petroleum, the ministry of environment, the national security services, civil society, the national gas and oil commission and the ministry of justice and the ministry of health.

In January 2021, 25 companies applied to undertake environment audit during the opening of bids.

However, only 6 companies bid for the audit.
