The national ministry of health has established Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) isolation center located 3km off Juba-Yei road.
This was revealed on Sunday by Joseph Lasu, the Director for Emergency Preparedness and Response at the national ministry of health during weekly press briefing on EVD in Juba.
“With support of senior management of the ministry, land has been identified 3 km at checkpoint on Yei road and we have already put in place structure if there is any (EVD) suspects that need to be isolated in Juba,” said Lasu
He said the facility will have 20 beds, adding that they have trained personnel on case management.
“The country definitely stands at high risk of the disease, and definitely we have put in place mechanisms, we have put in place readiness activities to ensure that we prevent importation of EVD into the country,” said Lasu.
John Rumunu, the Director General for Preventive Health Services, assured that they are in position to detect and test EVD in the country.
Brendan Dineen, COVAX Coordinator at the World Health Organization, said they are working to ensure public health measures concerning EVD are implemented at the border crossing points.
“The two organizations, the ministry of health and the World Health Organization are doing screening, training at county health departments,” said Dineen.
Neighboring Uganda declared outbreak of Ebola-Sudan Strain on 20th September in the central Mubende district.
Over 130 people have been infected as of 28th October, 2022. It is Uganda’s fifth outbreak with Sudan ebolavirus.
