South Sudan’s government on Wednesday said it will introduce electronic payroll to help weed out ghosts in the civil service.
This was revealed by Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information and Communication after the extra-ordinary cabinet meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir in Juba.
“Electronic payroll system, this is the computerized paying system whereby people are paid through computer system, and the names are computerized, it’s another way of fighting this duplication of names,” he told journalists.
Makuei disclosed that development of the electronic payroll system will be funded by the World Bank.
“The World Bank will be funding it, and will be paying the payroll coordinator that will be appointed. What is required from us is the sum of 100, 000 dollars annually for the maintenance of the system up to the time biometric system is out,” he said.
