Public consultation on river dredging and water resource management  begins on Sunday in S.Sudan.

The chairperson of the committee set by President Salva kiir Mayardit himself to spearhead the consultation process Mr.Akoc Akuei Manheiem told reporters on Mionday in Juba that public lectures have been set to this effect commencing on the 10th to  12th of this month and is open to all members of the public.

He added that, the inventiveness is aimed at finding workable solutions for the management of Sudd wetland, and White Nile water resource development.

Mr.Akoc also highlighted that, the lecture on water management will be conducted by both national and international panels of experts with diverse familiarity and knowledge in water management.

“The presidency has invited a panel of both international and national experts with diverse knowledge and expertise to deliver evidence-based analysis on the proposed dredging project of the White Nile River, its tributaries and other wetlands,” he said.

“You and I can help shape the government’s policy on managing water of the White Nile, flooding and droughts, and all resources the White Nile brings to this beautiful country. He continued.

It is noteworthy that fears and anxiety spread across S.Sudan after the arrival of dredging equipment from Egypt and its eventual deployment in dredging activity along the Nile river.

Although, residents of Unity State are pleased with this development, a group of lawyers lodged a legal complaint against the government of S. Sudan at the East African Court of Justice (EAC) over what they called “illegal dredging activities along the Nile River with potential to remit devastating environmental impacts on the population.
