Private businesses to sue JEDCO over high electricity tariff

The Central Equatoria State Chamber of Commerce has threatened to sue the Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) over what they cite as high power tariff and consistent load shedding, which have left their businesses counting losses.

Robert Pitia, Chairperson of Central Equatoria State Chamber of Commerce, said traders dealing in fresh goods and drinks have lost billions of South Sudanese Pounds due to irregular power cuts since the start of this year.

“Hundreds of million have been lost by the business people by those dealing in fresh goods,” Pitia told journalists in Juba on Tuesday.

He accused the power distributor has failed to deliver effective and efficient power to the public.

JEDCO announced last year, that it would embark on load shedding as the power generation plant operated by Ezra Company Limited underwent repairs.
