President Salva Kiir has donated $1 million to the University of Juba to support infrastructural development at the highest learning institution in South Sudan.

The money, to be channeled towards the construction of a new lecture hall complex was delivered by the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Barnaba Marial Benjamin yesterday during the fundraising ceremony at the campus.

The University of Juba targets $3 million towards the construction of the lecture hall and an acoustic perimeter wall around the Customs Campus.

“It is one of the pillars in nation building in our country, the president in his capacity as well as the chancellor of public universities supports this initiative,” Benjamin said while announcing the donation.

“There are great needs that the university needs- building new lecture hall, expanding the library, building new ICT station for computers,” he said.

Mijok Mijak, the Minister of Road and Bridges contributed $25, 000 while Vice President Taban Deng gave $5,000, all in South Sudanese Pounds.

The University Council Chairperson, Dr Manase Lomole said the initiative was to expand the institution’s infrastructure to meet the demand for higher admissions.

“We are planting a seed; a viable seed for the nation. There is a need for more halls due to the ballooning numbers of students,” Lomole said at the event.

“We are appealing to the public to donate generously for the development.”
