Over 75,000 homesteads submerged by water in Gogrial East

More than 75,000 households have been destroyed due to heavy flooding since June in Gogrial East County of northern Warrap State.

This was revealed Tuesday by Maluach Lueth, the Commissioner of Gogrial East County who added that 7 people were reported to have drowned in the area.

“The rain destroyed crops in farms and all houses are submerged and about 7 children have died as a result of floods,” Lueth told the Juba Echo in an interview.

He disclosed most of the affected population is holed up on the hills, as roads are also impassable due to water.

“We are sensitizing the population to move to the few places that are a bit high, and also we are telling them to transfer away the children and elderly people from the area,” Lueth said.

He urged the national and state government to invite humanitarian agencies to the flood affected areas in order to support those in need of food, clean water and medicines.

Gogrial East County has been experiencing heavy rainfall since June till August.
