NGO donates food and non- food items to over 3,000 returnees in Rubkona County

The South Sudan development and Relief Agency (SSUNDRA) on Sunday donated food and non- food items to more than 3,000 people who fled ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan.

“We have donated food items and non- food items to 3971 returnees in Rubkona town opposite to Rubkona Airstrip, our purpose of donating these items is to rescue returnees from hunger and starvation,” Mum Koang , the focal person for SSUNDRA in Unity State told Juba Echo in Rubkona town.

Koang they donated food, blankets, sleeping mats, plastic sheets, mosquito nets and washing soap to the returnees.

He said each of the returnees received one bag of Sorghum and other non-food items.

Most of the returnees are arriving in Panakuach area north of Unity state.

The United Nations estimates more than 32,000 people to have crossed into South Sudan from Sudan, since fighting erupted on April 15 between the Sudan armed forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

South Sudan is lready hosting over 2.2 million internally displaced persons.

Humanitarian agencies have warned full-blown humanitarian crisis with the new arrivals, due to scarce resources to respond to the situation.
