Muslim Community In Unity State Set up New Leadership 

Koang Malual Kuok have been elected by Muslim community of Bentiu in Unity State as Secretary General for Islamic council for the next four years.

Malual won this title when his competitor sheik Yasin Gatluak stepped down from the competition during a conference held at Naivasha hotel over the weekend.

The Muslim community election conference was attended by Unity state Minister of cabinet affairs, deputy secretary General of South Sudan Muslims council and members of other religious groups among other distinguished persons.

In this election conference, the Muslim constitution was enacted and vacuums in the Unity State Islamic leadership were filled.

The deputy secretary General of the Muslim council, Bansio Amum Deng while addressing scribes said his presence at the function was to ensure the passing of the constitution of the Muslims council and conduct elections of new Muslims leaders whose term will expire within four years.

“Our council elections today is peaceful and it’s the first ever peaceful election I have witnessed in 10 states, what I need from the 21 new leaders is to unite the Muslims with other believers,” Amum said.

He appreciated the Muslims community of Bentiu for turning up in good numbers compared to the turn up for a similar function in other states.

“During the South Sudan crisis, Muslims were targeted especially Sudanese Muslims who came to South Sudan for the purpose of trading, let us not feel segregated because our government is protecting us and we have our representatives there.”

The newly elected Muslims community leader Cheikh Koang Malual Kuok urged the unity state community Muslims to stand for peace and unity with other believers.

“Our election was free and fair and as you elected me to take the lead for four years,we should make our objectives and discipline paramount in our dealings,” Malual said.

Muslims community women of this area urged the new leaders to identify and address all challenges facing Muslim women in Unity State.
