Late Manawa’s cause of death revealed

The Press Secretary in the office of the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Gattiek Wichar has made public the cause of death of the late Manawa Peter Gatkuoth Gual. 

In an official “Biography” seen by Juba Echo, The late Minister died at “Wadi Al – Neel Hospital in Cairo” due to a Myocardial infection.

“The Late Hon. Manawa departed from the World on the 19th June 2022, at Wadi Al-Neel Hospital in Cairo, after suffering from An – ST-segment elevated myocardial infection compounded with Atherosclerosis,” read part of the biography shared publicly. 

Wichar invited the family, friends and general public for the final prayers on June 30.

“I would like to announce to you all that the funeral prayers of the late minister of water resources and Irrigation Hon. Manawa Peter will take place tomorrow on Thursday 30th June 2022 in Medan Simba near Al-Giada military Headquarters at 12:00pm,” he said.

Born in the Sudanese capital city Khartoum on 24th November 1973 to the family of the prominent Southern Sudanese politician Peter Gatkuoth Gual, Manawa is blessed with 18 siblings and survived with five wives with six children. Three girls and three boys. One of his five wives Teresa Simon Mathiang died.  

He joined Buluk primary school in 1980 and completed his Intermediate school in Hilat Hamad intermediate school in Khartoum in 1987, and subsequently completed his secondary school in 1989 at El-sheikh Lutfi secondary school. With many advanced certificates and degrees, Manawa graduated with a bachelor of law at Neelain University in Sudan in 2006.

Late. Manawa was a footballer and founding member of Bor Football Association in Jonglei State, radio journalist and presenter at Sudanese media houses including Sudan Radio, Malakal radio and T.V during his earlier career in life.

While joining politics, Late Manawa was appointed press secretary for the office of the governor of Jonglei and later become the minister of physical Infrastructure in Jonglei until the outbreak of conflict in 2013.

Until his passing on 19th June 2022, Late Manawa was the minister of water resources and Irrigation, chairman of Nile Basin, chairman of the National Committee for Information, Communication and Public Relations of the Armed Opposition group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition.
