Kenya Transporters Association warns drivers against entering South Sudan

The Kenya Transporters Association issued a travel advisory on April 2 following what it called, the increased incidences of insecurity, murder and violent crimes against foreign drivers and the setting ablaze of trucks currently being witnessed in South Sudan.

“Transporters are advised to withdraw their services with immediate effect until such time (when) security is guaranteed.” Reads part of the April 2 statement.

“To those already en route, we advise that you arrange with your clients to collect their goods at the customs yard in Elegu Border.” The statement continued.

On Thursday, five people including Kenyan truck drivers were killed along Juba Nimule road, and some of the trucks were set ablaze by yet to be identified, armed men.

South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry says it condemns the killings.

The Kenya Transporters Association is advising its drivers not to try to use the Yei-Juba road which is an alternative route for the Nimule-Juba road.

Early this week, in a separate incident, Eight (8) Ugandan drivers were killed along the Yei-Juba road.
