Government sets ultimatum to evict squatters on school lands

The government has promised to evict squatters encroaching on school land in Juba city and other major towns in the states.

Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, the Vice President for Service Cluster said they will commence the evictions within four months from now.

“Therefore, to end this impunity and to return back the stolen schools’ land to the government, I wish to inform the general public that all illegal occupants of schools’ land are hereby notified to vacate the lands within four weeks’ time from now,” Akol told journalists during press conference at the Ministry of General Education and Instruction in Juba on Monday.

Akol disclosed that some of the affected schools are in Juba, Wau, Western Equatoria State, and Aweil town among others.

He said that they noticed shops erected on school land in Akon village of Warrap State.

Akol said in the past they issued warning for squatters to vacate the lands they occupy without authorization from government.

“The government will apply the law against those who refuse to adhere to the stated order, demolition of illegal buildings across the country will be carried out in compliance with courts’ directives,” he said.
