The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for funding the recently launched One Health Multi-sectoral Coordination Mechanism (MCM) platform aimed at providing joint efforts from the government and partners in mitigating the health crisis in the country.
“To be able to realize and implement one health, we need resources, we need funds, without funds it could be a nightmare,” Fabian Ndenzako, the WHO Country Representative said during the closing of the meeting of MCM platform in Juba on Wednesday.
Ndenzako said the line ministries like the ministry of health, environment, petroleum and ministry of agriculture and food security need to consider budget for implementation of one health multi-sectoral coordination mechanism and the national action plan for health security.
“The issue of human resource, the issue of funding, the issue of legal element and the issue of coordination and surveillance are useful key composition to be able to implement coordination mechanism for health,” he said.
The one health multisectoral coordination mechanism involves agencies like the United States International Development Agency (USAID), UN Food Agriculture Organization, WHO and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Martin Elia Lomuro, the National Minister of Cabinet Affairs said they remain committed to implement health coordination mechanism.
“We have launched one health coordination mechanism and we are committed, it is about raising a right budget, the accommodation and mobility is a challenge that we cannot take easily,” Lomuro said.
“We have to work very hard, we have expectations, this is part of service delivery and it is part of developing commonality on how to address challenges within our health system,” he added.
