Disarmament Tops Agenda For Newly Appointed Lakes Governor

By Staff Writer

The recent appointment of Lt. Gen Rin Tueny Mabor as Lakes state Governor has attracted mixed reactions with several residents demanding his leadership focus on ending intermittent communal violence in the state.

The said that Mabor, a former director of military intelligence who replaced Makur Kulang should embark on civilian disarmament if he is to succeed where his predecessors failed.

Akech James, a university student said that the leadership reshuffle does not guarantee an end to intermittent sub-national conflict in the state, adding that full civilian disarmament is the only way forward.

He added that if Mabor’s government fails to carry out disarmament it will be termed a failure like others before it.

Another student who identified himself as Deng, said the leadership changes are good but without disarmament in the state there will be no peace.

“We are tired of hearing so and so being killed, cattle raided from point A to point B,” he said.

However, Sam Mayen welcomed Gen. Mabor’s appointment hoping that he will use his military experience to tackle the insecurity in the state.

“Mabor is good when it comes on security, he is the best out of others. The worst part is replacement of Gen. Makur has nothing to do with blackmailing,” he said.
