Deputy Governor says the world cannot be safe without peacekeepers

The Acting Governor for Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Tong Lual Ayat on Monday paid tribute to the work the United Nations peacekeepers (UNMISS) are doing in South Sudan,

“As the government of the state, we know the role you men and women in uniform have played during the conflicts that occurred in our country. You are doing great work around the world since the 1940’s,” Lual said during the commemoration of the International Day of Peacekeepers in Aweil town.

The Acting head of UNMISS, Alfred Zulu appreciated the state government officials including the South Sudan army (SSPDF) Division 3 commander for cooperating with the peacekeepers in their line of duty.

“There are many men and women who have died in the cause of their duties. Many forces in South Sudan have perished. In 1951, UN lost the Secretary General on a plane crash in Congo while he was traveling to New York. That is why we commemorate the colleagues. The government of South Sudan has been working hard with us to keep peace,” Zulu said.

Several state government officials expressed their commitment to support UNMISS on issues of governance, rule of law and civil affairs.
