The government of Central Equatoria state is planning to vaccinate over 800,000 against COVID-19 in the second round vaccination campaign launched last month.
James Wani, the Director for Primary Health Care in Central Equatoria state, told journalists on Tuesday in Juba that a total of 814,944 out of 1.8 million people in the state are expected to receive COVID jabs.
The number of people fully vaccinated in the first round of vaccination since 2021 are 235,764.
Anthony Kisanga, the Project Director for World Vision said they were advised by the ministry of health to have standard streamlined national vaccination campaign in the entire country instead of the previous facility base vaccination.
He said World Vision will be overseeing COVID-19 vaccination for greater Equatoria region.
World Vision implemented similar activities previously in Northern Bahr El Ghazel, Upper Nile and Warrap states.
Celestino Oryem, the Medical Director for Juba County, said wide coverage for COVID-19 vaccination will provide herd immunity.
“For our people who have received the first and second dose of AstraZeneca, you need also to have a booster dose with Johnson and Johnson, we need everybody to have the vaccine so that you are fully immunized,” Oryem said.
