Bodyguard of South Sudan’s Vice President opens fire killing his colleagues

By Kitab Unango

The residence of South Sudan’s Vice President for Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga in Juba was on Friday morning shaken, after a body guard opened fire on his colleagues killing one and wounding others.

The killer bodyguard is believed to have later on shot himself dead, bringing the number of the dead to two.

Maj.Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the Spokesperson of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) confirmed the incident, but refused to divulge details as he instead referred this reporter to the spokesperson of the Vice President.

“It is true but that is not my jurisdiction, talk to the Vice President’s spokesperson to tell you what happened,” Koang told Juba Echo.

However, a reliable source who preferred to speak on the condition of anonymity, said the killer body guard was a wounded soldier who resides at the Vice President’s residence.

Our repeated calls to the South Sudan police spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin Buolo, went unanswered by press time.

The high profile incident could send shivers within the spine of the top leadership of the transitional unity government, since no such incident had ever been recorded.
