Aweil police probe mysterious death of SSPDF officer

Police in Aweil town of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State said on Friday they are investigating circumstances around the death of a South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) soldier.

Guot Guot Akol, the spokesperson of the police told Juba Echo the deceased identified as Aweu Uguak, 35 was found dead on Thursday under unclear circumstances at Maper Akot Aru suburb of Aweil town.

 “The man identified as Aweu Uguak was found at Maper Akot near Dut-Ucak mango trees. Nobody knows who killed him and more information about his death is being sought,” Guot said.

He said that postmortem tests have been carried out at Aweil Civil hospital and it is believed that he was hit by assailants in the right side of his neck using heavy stick.

Guot disclosed that Criminal Investigation Department team and other organized forces have been sent to comb the area for clues.

“My advice to the town dwellers is that never stay out late at night, kindly go home early as you have now seen how murder cases are on the rise since the start of this year,” he said.

Guot appealed to the local population to help them apprehend criminals.

The police officer said they have recorded more than 5 murder cases since the start of this year.
