The ongoing violence in Upper Nile State has been blamed on political elites by a civil society whom he accused of seeking political positions at the national level.
Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) in an interview with Juba Echo urged the presidency to actively work to end the suffering of the civil population in Upper Nile State.
“The ongoing violence in some parts of Upper Nile State is deadly and inhuman, it is being financed by some political elites in the country, the only required intervention for the stoppage of the violence lies in the active action of the presidency,” said Yakani.
Under the 2018 revitalized peace deal the presidency consists of the President and five vice presidents who are charged with taking key decisions.
Last week, rebel forces under the command of Gen.Thomas Mabor Dhol allied to Agwelek forces of Gen.Johnson Olony Thabo launched attack on civilians in Ayod County of Jonglei State which left scores killed and thousands displaced.
Yakani said the perpetrators of war crimes in Upper Nile State should be held accountable.
“CEPO condemns the ongoing deadly and inhuman violence in some parts of Upper Nile state, and CEPO considers it as an absolute proxy war funded by elements who are influential in the country and outside of the country,” he said.
