21 clubs to participate in South Sudan football cup

The 2022-2023 South Sudan football cup has registered 21 clubs for tournament slated to kick off on 20th January.

This was revealed on Friday by Charles Udwar, the Vice President for South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) during press conference held in Juba.

“We are happy to invite you for South Sudan cup, we have been doing it every year, there is a draw done in a very transparent manner. This year in term of prices, the champion will take 20,000 USD, first runners up 5,000 USD, the third and the fourth 3,000 and 2,000 USD,” said Udwar.

The winners of the tournament will reserve 15,000 USD of the prize money for their tickets to participate in this year’s African Confederation Cup.

The opening games will begin with group A involving Burtit FC of Yirol, Mobil FC of Wanjok, Alei United of Twic, Genanyuon of Tonj,and Gunzaka of Rumbek, Al Merhiek of Wau, and Salaam Fc of Aweil and Nahlah Fc of Raja and El Merhiek FC of Bentiu.

Group B includes Nation FC of Maridi, Nile Eagle of Nimule, Wehda of Terekeka, Al Merhiaek of Juba, Yambio Stars, Salaam FC of Bor and Atlabara FC of Yei.

Group C has Nujum Al Souma of Renk, Tahrir of Melut, and Noor of Nasir.

“South Sudan cup is one of the competitions we are organizing as SSFA, this time we have 21 teams in three groups, we have groups instead of being in zones,” said Victor Lawrence, the Secretary General for SSFA.

He disclosed that matches will be played out for period of one month.

“The champion of this competition will play in Africa Confederation Cup, the runners up will play South Sudan super cup for next season,” said Lawrence.

Some matches will be played in Rumbek stadium, Malakal stadium and Buluk playground.
