The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with partners has conducted a review of its country programs to evaluate the progress towards implementing the 2024 work plans in the country.
Sarah Masale, the Deputy Country Representative for UNFPA in South Sudan, said on Monday that UNFPA still faces significant funding challenges to run some of its country programs.
“The remarkable achievement of the UNFPA South Sudan country office is being recognized as the best performance in Eastern and Southern Africa, attributing the success to the dedicated efforts of the team,” said Masale.
Mario Velvour Gunda, Director General for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, commended the support provided by UNFPA towards empowering youth over the years, adding that partners need to ensure that resources are directed towards addressing critical issues affecting the population.
Janet Michael, Director General for Nursing and Midwives at the National Ministry of Health said the meeting provided insights into the funding shortfall that UNFPA faces to operate programs in the country.
“There are challenges confronted by the health sector that call for partners to sustain their collaboration and support to address these pressing issues. Continued dedication and resource allocation to improve healthcare services across the nation is required,” she said.
The 4th semi-annual country program review meeting was attended by government officials and partners. It served as a platform for reflection, collaboration, and strategic planning to advance development goals in South Sudan.
