The Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Monday held discussions with President Salva Kiir on the resumption of oil exports through Port Sudan.
Ramadan Abdalla Mohammed Goc, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement issued in Juba, the capital of South Sudan that Al-Burhan assured his counterpart of the technical repairs done on the ruptured pipeline by the Sudanese engineers, which could pave the way for the resumption of oil exports.
Goc said that engineers from South Sudan will soon visit Sudan in the coming weeks to familiarize themselves with the readiness of the facilities to jump-start oil production.
In February, the Dar Petroleum Oil Company (DPOC) suspended loadings of the Dar Blend crude following a rupture on the export pipeline in neighboring Sudan, which has been mired in conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) since April 15, 2023.
Goc also said that President Kiir reaffirmed his government’s dedication to restoring peace and stability in Sudan, adding that Al-Burhan recognized President Kiir’s commitment to peace and stability and expressed appreciation for his efforts towards regional initiatives aimed at consolidating stability and economic growth between the two nations.
Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Monday arrived in Juba for bilateral discussions with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Oil -dependent south Sudan heavily depends on Sudan, its northern neighbor, to transport oil to international markets.
In March, the Sudanese government announced the suspension of South Sudan’s oil exports through Sudanese territories due to a fault in the transportation lines.
According to the Sudanese authorities, the fault was the result of a blockage in an underground pipeline situated in areas controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, north of Sudan’s White Nile State.
