The Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani on Thursday appreciated the hold-out opposition parties for compromises during talks with the government in Nairobi.
Yakani said that the hold-out opposition parties have made compromises for the sake of peace and stability in the country, adding that parties to the Nairobi talks must consider the interest of the citizens.
“Some of the observations are incorporated and that means the Tumaini protocols are speaking in the language that the incumbent leaders in the government want and the opposition in Nairobi have accepted,” Yakani said in a statement.
He urged the political leaders to immediately reach a consensus on the contentious National Security Act, the national budget, and the 2024 general elections.
Yakani also said that a more practical, functional, and genuine political transition process is needed to ensure the implementable political framework for transitioning the country from violence to peace.
The transitional government of national unity commenced talks on May 3, 2024, in Nairobi with the hold-out opposition parties including Real SPLM led by Pagan Amum and South Sudan United Front led by Gen. Paul Malong Awan.
