The Jonglei State Minister of Health Lual Monyluak on Tuesday urged Bor State Hospital striking health workers to call off the strike.
“We urged health workers to call off the strike as we follow up their case, the population in the hospital is so huge, it is a burden because the work done by the entire staff is not equivalent to the few working,” Monyluak told Juba Echo TV.
The health workers went on strike on Monday demanding unpaid incentives by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for emergencies.
Monyluak said that the contract for the medical incentives was signed between UNICEF and Yolanda Awel Deng Juach, the national minister of health.
He noted that the issue is already being discussed with UNICEF, adding that hopes to soon solve the impasse.
Monyluak said the striking health staff at the main hospital in the State includes nurses, clinical officers, and cleaners, adding that very few health workers at the hospital are volunteering to handle emergency cases.
“Staff in health facilities strike in a day and work the following day, if health workers go on strike, those who know rules and regulations continue working, and health workers are humanitarians,” he said.
