At least 26,440 candidates out of 45,666 have passed the 2023 Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, according to the results released on Thursday by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction.
Awut Deng Acuil, the Minister of General Education and Instruction said that 45,433 registered for the academic section while 107 candidates registered for the commercial section in Juba Commercial Secondary School.
She disclosed that 126 candidates registered for a technical section at Juba Technical Secondary School.
“Secondly, out of the 44,131 candidates, 26,440 (16,633 males, 9,807 females) managed to obtain the minimum university entry qualification of grade C and above, and hence do qualify for progression to universities while 17,691 (11264 males, 6,427 females) could not make it unfortunately,” Acuil said during a press conference in Juba.
Acuil said that 291 candidates in the academic section didn’t complete the examination, while 28 cases of examination malpractice were recorded, adding 8 students failed to follow the registration criteria hence their results have not been graded.
“Out of the 44,131 candidates who were graded, 27,897 are males and 16,234 females representing 63.2 percent and 36.8 percent respectively and this indicates that gender disparity still exists in secondary schools in the country,” Acuil said.
She disclosed that three general compulsory subjects including citizenship, Christian Religious Education, and Mathematics were among the poorly performed subjects.
