The high-level delegation led by Anita Kiki Gbeho the Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Resident Coordinator in South Sudan arrived on Tuesday in Bentiu town of Unity State to assess areas at risk of looming floods.
The delegation was led on the tour in Panyijiar, Leer, and Mayendit Counties by Tor Tunguar Kueiguong, the Deputy Governor of Unity State.
The National Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Pal Mai Deng and Albino Akol Atak the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs were part of the delegation that visited Unity State.
“I am aware of the current flooding situation but we need to have mechanisms to control this current flooding situation,” said Mai.
Mai promised that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation would provide the necessary tools and excavators to support efforts to mitigate floods.
Deputy Governor Tor Tunguar Kueiguong asked the National Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and UNMISS to provide 24 excavators and 16 trucks to seven flood-affected counties to construct permanent berms and dikes.
