Lawmakers are seen during a session in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.

Power blackout forces MPs to adjourn sitting

Power blackout during parliamentary sitting forced Oyet Nathaniel Pierino, the First Deputy Speaker for the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) to call off the session on Monday morning in Juba.

“We have a lot of inconvenience this morning as you can see the power is not on, the big generator is down and the backup generator is small to run the session, and so we have the honor to adjourn the sitting,” said Oyet.

The parliament was expected to discuss joint report from the specialized committee on Finance and Economic Planning, and Public Accounts, and Legislation and Justice on the National Bureau of Statistics Bill.

The National Bureau of Statistics Bill is supposed to go through it’s third reading in parliament.

The Bill was meant to be presented by Suzan Thomas Perembata, the Deputy Chairperson of the Specialized Committee on Finance and Economic Planning.
