South Sudan Union of Journalists led by President Oyet Patrick Charles welcomes re-opening of Al Watan Newspaper

Service, Public Relations Department for the collaborative work that led to reopening
of the Newspaper,”
UJOSS will continue to engage with all stakeholders in the country to ensure that
journalists work in a free and safe environment.
Last year, media authorities banned access to the Al-Watan offices on 24 November 2023 after the newspaper published a letter of condolence that they had sent to Israel.
The suspension was a reprisal for its publication on 11 October of a letter to the Israeli authorities signed by President Salva Kiir expressing condolences for the attacks on civilians by Hamas four days earlier.
