Sudan’s civilian coalition calls for ceasefire

Sudan’s civilian coalition, Forces of Freedom and Change have called for ceasefire in Sudan at the conclusion of the consultative meeting on the conflict in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

Omar El Degeir, the chairperson of Forces of Freedom and Change met with President Salva Kiir Mayardit and members of South Sudanese mediation committee, with their discussion centered on ending Sudan’s ongoing conflict.

In a communiqué issued on Thursday, the Forces of Freedom and Change called for an urgent ceasefire in Sudan and immediate initiation of peace talks to resolve the devastating conflict.

The civilian collation urged Sudanese armed groups to unite and reject any actions that prolong the conflict or fragmentation of Sudan.

“We reject anything that leads to disintegration of Sudan or leads to prolonging the civil war,” it said.

The Forces of Freedom and Change appealed for inclusive humanitarian aid and assistance to affected Sudanese populations and also called for exerting efforts to end the humanitarian crisis stemming from the ongoing conflict.

The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) led by Abdel Fatah Burhan, has been engaged in protracted conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces under Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo since April 15.

The conflict has killed thousands and displaced over 1 million people.
