The first peace conference aimed to bring unity among internally displaced women was held on Monday in Bentiu internally displaced persons camp.
The event organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and camp management brought together more than 300 different women leaders and women groups in the protection of civilians’ site.
Kueth Machar Nyak, the field office project assistance for IOM in Unity State, said the two days peace conference achieved it’s purpose of promoting peace and unity among the women.
He added that the peace conference will enable women leaders and women groups to participate in decision making process in Bentiu IDP camp.
Nyak said women had been marginalized within the camp as they were denied leadership positions.
He disclosed that women have realized their rights to participate in decision making within the camp.
Marina Nyareek Gatjiek, a member of the high-level committee in Bentiu IDP camp appreciated IOM for organizing the peace conference which has opened the minds of women to participate in leadership.
“This is the capacity building we want in the community, we now know our rights in decision making process and leadership, we will participate in the community top leadership as this conference focused on our participation in the community leadership,” Nyareek said.
