Doctors in Aweil civil hospital of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State have commenced fistula operation exercise.
This was revealed last week by the medical director of Aweil Civil hospital, Dr. Santino Ajou Tong.
He said they will operate this week six fistula patients for free.
“The fistula surgeons arrived on Saturday, and we have started operations, not all of the patients will need surgery. We have done the screening and will see who will go for the surgery,” Tong told journalists.
He urged the public to bring fistula patients to the hospital for registration.
Fistula is an abnormal connection or passageway between organs or vessels that normally do not connect in the human tube.
Ayak Dut who was the first to be operated on successfully said she has been relieved of stress and pain.
“I have been suffering for five years and it is something that made me so weary and indeed I never thought that I will be cured,” she said.
