Police in Warrap State are investigating a case in which a pregnant woman in Tonj town hammered nails into her six year old daughter accusing her of not staying at her home.
Adeng Garang hammered nails into the feet of her daughter on Monday while accusing the latter of roaming in neighborhood.
A resident of Tonj town Ater Garang confirmed to Juba Echo that the mother of the child exceeded acceptable limits in attempting to discipline the child.
“She came back from the market and found out that the child is not at home. This made her think of nailing her. It is shocking to see a mother treat her child in this manner,” Garang said.
He said the child was rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment.
The police commissioner for Warrap State, Maj.Gen Mayuol Abet said investigations into the matter are being carried out to ascertain the motive behind the gruesome attack on the minor.
It is nearly five months since a man in Tonj East County of Warrap state gouged the eyes of his daughter after she vehemently refused to accept to get married to man of her father’s choice.
Some people in the state and neighboring Northern Bahr El Ghazal state were shocked by the latest incident in Tonj town.
The incident has attracted the ire of several social media users in the country who have condemned the incident as a violation of child rights under the constitution of South Sudan.
