The governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Tong Aken Ngor last week swore- in members of liberation council of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and technical advisors in the state.
Tong urged party supporters during the swearing ceremony to deliver services to the population.
“I want to assure you that the government being led by President Salva Kiir is willing to deliver. If you do what the party needs then you can change the face of this nation,” he3 said on Friday in Aweil town.
Tong said the SPLM party is ready for the December 2024 elections. He also dispelled doubts on whether the transitional government has the capacity to conduct free, fair and credible elections.
“There is no way elections could be halted as some people speculate. Anyone who wants to contest will contest with us,” Tong said.
A resident of Aweil who preferred anonymity to speak freely on the matter, said he doubts whether credible elections could be held on time citing the lack of political will to implement the critical pending tasks within the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
“These people of SPLM are just making things out of the blue. There is no way the elections can occur if the pending peace tasks are not implemented. How do you think as an individual that elections will occur,” he wonders.
