The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) joined internally displaced persons in Bentiu to celebrate World Refugee Day.
Hida Ochuonyo, UNHCR head of field office, said this year’s celebration focused on solutions for refugees and the power of inclusion.
“Refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons should have access to job opportunities and school enrollment, including access to health care services,” Ochuonyo said during the ceremony held in Bentiu IDP camp on Tuesday.
The event was attended by faith-based leaders, community leaders, and Sudanese refugees from Nuba Mountain, teachers, pupils and UN peacekeepers.
Ochuonyo said they will continue to resettle returnees who recently fled conflict in neighboring Sudan.
“UNHCR and the state government will make sure that all refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons will have equal access to protection, education and shelter,” she said.
Ochuonyo urged government and humanitarian partners to speed up to resettlement for returnees and Sudanese refugees.
Kalany Bolis Kueth, the youth leader in Bentiu IDP camp appreciated UNHCR for providing protection services for displaced civilians.
“I appreciate UNHCR and it partners for joining hands with IDPs, returnees and refugees to celebrate this wonderful World Refugee Day in Bentiu IDP camp,” Kueth said.
