The traffic police in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State have issued deadline for all motorists to register their number plates by June 10th.
Arkangelo Angou Makor, acting traffic police director for Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, said on Thursday that heavy and light vehicles such as the tractors, cars and the motorbikes need to be registered.
The decision comes after police said it was unable to identify vehicles and motorcycles involved in road accidents.
“The number plates for heavy vehicles like cars or trucks are 85,000 SSP and that of the motorbikes is 50,000 SSP,” Makor said.
Makor said that anyone who does not abide by the ultimatum issued will face consequences.
“If your vehicle is caught beyond that time without the number plates. Then know that you have to bear the brunt of the law,” he said.
Some residents in Aweil blame traffic authorities for stealthily issuing out number plates to well-connected people.
