Police of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State are holding two suspects accused of torching houses in Aulicu payam located in Aweil Center County.
Deng Bul Deng, the administrator of Auluic payam said Tuesday that the duo is suspected to have been behind the fire that last week destroyed 20 houses and properties.
“The two women where cooking local dish known as “kombo” which started the fire, so we are interrogating them as per the fire brigade rules. Even the clothes and luggage of the cattle keepers in Makuei Boma were burnt completely,” Deng told Juba Echo.
Deng revealed that the Aweil Center Commissioner, Peter Natale donated dry grass to roof houses of the affected families.
“We are in dry season and these people can’t afford to buy their own grass for roofing local huts. So we have to step in as government,” he disclosed.
Deng said that some affected families that have not received assistance will be supported when they secure support from well-wishers.
One of the beneficiaries, Amou Dut said that they had been sleeping outside in the open due to lack of proper shelter.
“We have been sleeping in the open and it is now going to be much better as the payam has given us these bundles of grass, we will have to examine those whose conditions are dire so that we prioritize them,” she said.
