By Hou Akot Hou

Several mourners from all walks of life retreated to Aweil South County on Monday to pay their last respects to the late former State minister for information and communication Wek Kuch Deng.

The Governor of Northern Bah El Gazal State, Tong Aken Ngor while addressing mourners in Tieraliet village, said the late Deng was an admired liberator during the decades of the liberation war which won independence for South Sudan.

“Deng not only served as a minister for information, but had worked as a teacher in 1980’s. So we stand firm with him and his family because he served SPLM well,” Tong said.

Tong said that he is going to support the needs of the orphaned children.

“My government is going to be supportive to his children, and I am glad that you have witnessed his burial ceremony today. I urge you to stand firm with them in every capacity. My condolences are with you and we will do what is needful,” he said.

The late Deng also served as assistant secretary for Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Aweil town, as well as head of commission which conducted the population census in 2008.
