Juba City Council releases teacher arrested for petitioning mayor over school land

Juba City Council authorities on Tuesday released from detention a teacher from Jada Jedid Nursery and Primary School who had been detained for petitioning the Mayor Michael Ladu Allah-Jabu over land dispute.

David Dhal Malual, the deputy head teacher for Jada Jedid Nursery and Primary School prior to his arrest on Monday, had approached the Mayor during his visit to Luri suburb to seek his attention on the ongoing land dispute between the school and other people hell-bent on grabbing some of it’s land.

The Mayor ordered his security detail to arrest Malual.

“I met the Mayor in Luri and I was a complainer because the plot was approved for the school by Juba City Council, immediately after he received the documents, he gave orders to his security guards to take me,” Malual told The Juba Echo in Juba.

“I am not happy because according to the constitution, when you see the bill of rights under fair trial, it says when you arrest someone there must be a reason for the arrest,” he added.

James Ladu Mathew Sule, the academic registrar of Jada Jedid nursery and primary school, said Malual was mistaken by the Mayor for a land grabber.

“He is not a criminal, he is complaining for his right, the plot was approved through the quarter council and we also got approval from Juba City Council in 2020,” Sule said.

Sule disclosed that his colleague was released without charges by the authorities of Juba City Council.

Our attempt to contact the Michael Ladu Thomas Alah-Jabu, the Mayor for comment were futile by press time as he could not return our calls.
