Sudan and South Sudan have agreed to implement the 2012 cooperation agreement that grants South Sudanese and Sudanese the right to own property, free movement, residence and employment in both countries.
“We have reached the agreement to implement the four freedoms and South Sudan is ready to go to Khartoum, so that the committee begins to implement what has been agreed and the two leaders will meet either in Khartoum or in Juba,” Tut Gatluak Manime, Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs said during a joint press conference held with the visiting Sudanese delegation in Juba on Saturday.
Gatluak said the agreement was reached last week in Juba, adding that the South Sudanese delegation will travel to Khartoum soon to begin the implementation.
Lt Gen. Shamseddin Al-Kabbashi, a member of Sudan’s Sovereign Council said both countries have agreed to work together to achieve sustainable peace and security.
“We have strong and historical relations with South Sudan and we shall work to sustain peace and security in the two countries and in the region,” Al-Kabbashi.
The cooperation agreement signed during the administration of former Sudanese president Omar Al Bashir in Addis Ababa also includes oil fees, security and border demarcation.
