The transitional government of national unity has said it is planning to amend laws establishing independent statutory commissions before they are shared among the parties to the 2018 revitalized peace deal.
Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services, said that the minister of Justice and constitutional affairs Reuben Madol is preparing to amend all the laws governing commissions.
“We need to amend the laws to conform with the peace agreement before we distribute these commissions,” Makuei told journalists after the weekly cabinet meeting in Juba on Friday.
“You know very well a lot of people have been asking about the progress made on the institutions and commissions and so forth, the committee conducted a lot of work and presented to the council of ministers and cabinet to approve the plan that we have prepared, it’s clear that most of these commissions need their laws to be amended and those without laws the laws have to be established and passed before the establishment of these commissions,” he added.
Makuei said that they have delayed to appoint members to these commissions because of absence laws governing their work.
“We have to amend the laws and give the percentage in accordance with the provision of the agreement,” he said.
